[Azure-init](https://github.com/Azure/azure-init) is a fresh open source reference implementation for provisioning Linux virtual machines in Azure. In contrast to existing systems like cloud-init, azure-init aims to be minimal, focusing on basic instance initialization from Azure metadata. Azure-init also consists of a flexible structure to enable its use by other provisioning agents like Fedora CoreOS’ [Afterburn](https://github.com/coreos/afterburn/). Finally, azure-init aims to be fast and secure, being written in Rust. In this talk we will review the motivations for the creation of azure-init, the current status of the project, and vision for its future development.
