33C3 Facelifting

Pünktlich zum Congress hat media.ccc.de ein Facelifting bekommen und präsentiert sich mit einer neu gestalteten Startseite sowie einer überarbeiteten Download-Sektion. Auch haben wir etliche kleinere Bugs behoben. Wir hoffen, dass euch die neue Aufmachung gefällt und freuen uns auf einen spannenden 33C3.

Digging through the archives

You may not be aware that media.ccc.de is not only a shiny website but also runs a CDN ( cdn.media.ccc.de ) which contains even more recordings than you currently can find in the frontend.
Bringing this old archives to the light of searchable website with meta data is a project with all the joy of walking barefoot on LEGOs.
The first result of this work are 21 talks from the FrOSCon 2012 .
We will bring more recordings to the frontend over the next months and also publish files that for now are only available in one codec in a number of codecs to fulfill the needs of all the tiny mediaplayer thingies out there.

Software Upgrade

media.ccc.de offers video playback since 2008. Today we launched our third major rewrite. As usual this means a new URL scheme and lots of 404 errors. We're watching the logs and will add some permanent redirects later.
Changes:

A popup menu shows all available feeds for a given page.
An audio-only podcast feed was added to the main feed menu.
Broadcatching feeds are gone until we find a better solution for torrents.

Over the last month we have got so much new content that we didn't found the time to write a news about it. Some of the content is produced by the VOC some came from our friends. So here is a short list of the last updates:

One of the most comfy ways to watch all this is the ccc plugin for kodi (xbmc) which you can now find in the official plugin repository. Have a look at the about page for more information on how to use media.ccc.de.

In den letzten Monaten haben ein paar neue Formate auf media.ccc.de Einzug gehalten. Neben dem Chaosradio welches seid der 200dersten Folge mindestens jeden zweite Monat auch als Video erscheint produziert nun auch der CCCAC eine Vortragsreihe in Farbe und Bunt. Darüber hinaus hat der erste aufgezeichnete Datengarten des CCCB seinen weg auf media.ccc.de gefunden. Das Chaosradio findet ihr in der Kategorie Broadcast die Erfa Produktionen unter Events.

New Hardware

Big thanks to everyone involved! We successfully switched to the new hardware.

There are still some of the smaller folders missing, but we're working on it.

In the meantime you can take a look at our mirror status table, that is if you ignore SSL errors. If you want to stay up to date with media news, you can subscribe to our new atom news feed.

Besides our existing feeds, we now offer an experimental public JSON API for all the recordings.

New Media

Over the next weeks media.ccc.de will be updated. The upgrade involves new hardware and a new frontend.

With regards to the frontend, I'm afraid some features will be lost by the upgrade and may never return, like FLV with flash player. Some of the more obscure video folders won't be part of the initial import. However they will get imported and probably re-encoded for HTML5 eventually.

The CDN should have a minimal downtime only while we change the machine.
