Inertial navigation

Rigid body dynamics and its application to dead reckoning

Playlists: 'camp2011' videos starting here / related events

The motion of objects through space can be observed in everyday life and the analysis of their dynamics leads to a fundamental notion of theoretical mechanics, the rigid body. Inertial navigation is based on continuous measurement of acceleration and angular velocities and the inversion of the rigid body's equations of motion. Additionally, the modeling of noise and error propagation is essential to correctly estimate position and attitude.
